Welcome to "Mannlicher", a website about Buglarian military history. You might wonder why exactly "Mannlicher"? The answer is simple - this is the rifle that won all battles. This is the weapon with which our grandfathers fought during the Balkan wars for Bulgarian unification, and during both World Wars. This is the weapon that did not let a single Bulgarian battle flag to fall in enemy hands. This rifle is a symbol. It symbolises Bulgaria.

In this site we will look at the wars for national unification, as well as the histories of the development and use of the firearms Bulgarian soldiers have used. This issue is little explored and will therefore be the focus here. Since it is vast, as it deals with all armaments of all arms, we will start with personalsmall arms. They are the primary armament of infantry and cavalry and therefore give the best overall picture.

In the future we hope to expand the site, pushing back to the years of the Ottoman rule, and look at the weapons of the Bulgarian freedom fighters and revolutionaries.

The site will constantly be expanded and updated, and we ask for your help if you are able to provide additional information or images, or even whole articles.
